UPAYA MENINGKATKAN MINAT BELAJAR MATEMATIKA SISWA KELAS VIII E SMP N 1 CIRUAS DENGAN PENDEKATAN OPEN-ENDED

Abstract


Classroom action research was carried out to overcome the problem of the average interest in learning mathematics students of class VIII E SMP Negeri 1 Ciruas of 70.3 which is still in the medium category. This can be seen from the analysis of the questionnaire results on students' interest in learning mathematics at the time before the action is taken. Actions are carried out by applying an open-ended approach, namely a learning approach that is presented to students through open problems in order to obtain various ways of solving or more than one correct answer. This approach is carried out in learning through stages: (1) Providing open-ended problems, (2) Resolving open-ended problems, (3) Presentation of discussion results, (4) Discussion of student responses (class discussion), (5) Taking conclusions. This research was conducted at the end of January to the end of March 2019. The study was conducted in two cycles. The first cycle consists of 3 meetings and the second cycle consists of 2 meetings with material relations and functions. The results of the average student mathematics learning interest increased from 70.3 to 85.41 at the end of the first cycle and 89.125 at the end of the second cycle in the high category. Conclusion, students' interest in learning mathematics can be improved by learning using an open-ended approach.
