Abstract

The difficulty in reading the Qur'aan by special needs children has not gotten special attention. Special needs children who become the focus of this study are the children with down syndrome or children with trisomy 21. Children with down syndrome are the children who suffer from a retardation in their growth (slow to talk, sit down, and walk), physical deffect (flat head and flat nose) and physical weakness (fatigue and pain) as well as having a relatively low IQ compared to normal people in general. All children, both normal and special needs have the same rights in education, one of which is religious education such as increasing the ability of learning Qur’aan. Ma’unah application discussed in this paper is thought to be able to increase the ability of learning Qur’an in down syndrome children. Ma’unah application offers ‘playing’ features under the concept of Augmented Reality which could combine real world and virtual world so that both could interact in real-time and be displayed 3D view. Therefore, this application is predicted to be success as it has many benefits to offer.
