Enhancing Character Education for EFL Learners on English Drama Show: The Story of Kebo Iwa

Abstract


This research is a qualitative descriptive study. It will discuss character education for EFL learners through an English drama show. The focus is on the story of Kebo Iwa, a popular Balinese folktale. By using drama show as a tool, this research aims to deliver positive values and character education to EFL learners, such as responsibility, honesty, and respect. The research will explore the importance of character education in language learning, particularly in developing personal development, communication skills, and critical thinking. The subject of the research is the dialogue on the drama script and the video of the performance that come from the actors and actrees in the drama show entitled The Story of Kebo Iwa presented by the students of English Language Education Study Program during English Drama Fiesta event.Furthermore, the research will present how the use of drama can enhance the EFL learners' understanding of the story and its moral values. This research proposes that drama shows can be an effective tool to familiarize EFL learners with positive values and character education, which can help to shape their identities as successful individuals in the future. Using drama techniques such as role-playing and storytelling, the drama-based approach is explored as an effective tool for language learners to engage with the story and its moral values and develop critical thinking skills. The research argues that the drama-based approach can be a valuable tool to engage EFL learners with character education, helping to shape their identities as successful individuals in the future.
