GENERATIVE AI

Generative AI Use Policy

Pikukuh: Journal Hukum dan Kearifan Lokal

1. Preamble
Pikukuh: Journal Hukum dan Kearifan Lokal acknowledges the increasing role of Generative Artificial Intelligence (GenAI) technologies in academic research and publishing. These tools may enhance the clarity, efficiency, and accessibility of scholarly writing. However, their use must be governed by the principles of transparency, academic integrity, intellectual accountability, and respect for local wisdom and legal traditions.

2. Permissible Use

  • GenAI and AI-assisted tools may be used solely to improve language readability, grammar, and clarity of manuscripts.

  • Such tools shall not be employed to generate substantive legal arguments, interpretations of local wisdom, or original scholarly contributions.

  • Authors must exercise full supervision and remain responsible for reviewing, revising, and validating all outputs generated by AI tools.

3. Limitations and Prohibitions

  • AI tools must not be credited as authors or co-authors, as authorship entails intellectual accountability that cannot be assumed by non-human agents.

  • The use of AI for drafting substantial legal analyses, case law interpretations, or arguments regarding adat law (customary law) is strictly prohibited.

  • Reviewers, editors, and the editorial board are prohibited from using GenAI tools during the peer review and editorial evaluation process, in order to protect confidentiality and intellectual property.

4. Mandatory Disclosure Requirement
Authors are required to disclose any use of GenAI or AI-assisted technologies in the writing process by including a declaration in their manuscript at the time of submission. This statement will appear in the published version of the article, immediately before the references section.

The following format must be used:

Declaration of Generative AI and AI-Assisted Technologies in the Writing Process
During the preparation of this manuscript, the author(s) used [NAME OF TOOL/SERVICE] for [SPECIFY PURPOSE]. The author(s) subsequently reviewed and revised the content as necessary and accept full responsibility for the final version of the article.

This declaration is not required for the use of basic tools such as standard spelling or grammar checkers, or reference management software. If no generative AI or AI-assisted technologies were used, no statement is necessary.

5. Ethical Considerations

  • Authors bear full intellectual and ethical responsibility for the content of their work, regardless of the use of GenAI tools.

  • Manuscripts must uphold the values of academic honesty and avoid fabricated citations, biased outputs, or misrepresentation of adat law, legal doctrine, or jurisprudence.

  • Respect for local knowledge, customary law, and indigenous intellectual property must be maintained at all times.

6. Future Review
This policy is subject to periodic review as GenAI technologies evolve. The editorial board of Pikukuh: Journal of Law and Local Wisdom reserves the right to revise this policy to safeguard the integrity, originality, and credibility of the journal.
