Abstract

The aims of this research are to improve the English proficiency of Elementary School Teachers in Tangerang, Indonesia. The researcher used a quantitative approach with quasi experimental design. The quasi-experimental design chosen was nonequivalent control group design by using pretest and posttest in the experiment and control groups in determining the score to compare English proficiency levels before and after getting treatment by using Total Physical Response (TPR) method. The researcher took samples from each school as many as 40 elementary school teachers in Tangerang. The findings of this research showed that the experimental group's average post-test score was 48.6 and the control group's average post-test score was 41.95, so there was an increase of 6.7 or 2.66%. So the hypothesis can be concluded that, H0 is rejected and Ha is accepted, means that there are significant differences in improving English proficiency of elementary school teachers by using the TPR method.
