Abstract

This study aims to prove the effect of rope density (μ) on wave velocity (ν), which was carried out using Melde's law experiments in order to analyze the factors that affect the velocity of the wave propagation of the rope. The background of this research is because there are differences in the speed of wave propagation between types of ropes that have different mass densities. The method used is the experimental method by varying the type of rope. The results showed that the density of the rope affected the speed of propagation of the waves. This is evidenced by comparative data on mattress thread, nylon thread, wool thread and kenur thread which shows that the greater the density of the rope, the smaller the resulting wave propagation will be.

Keywords: Fast wave propagation, Melde’s law, Rope tension force, String mass density.
