Author Guidelines

The journal welcomes original empirical investigations. The papers may represent a variety of theoretical perspectives and different methodological approaches. They may refer to any age level, from infants to adults and to various learning and instructional settings, from laboratory experiments to field studies. The primary criteria in the review and the selection process concern the significance of the contribution to the area of learning and instruction and the study's rigour.

Important note: It takes about 2-3 months from initial submission to acceptance, and in some cases, it will take longer due to several factors, such as the availability of reviewers. Please submit your paper 3-4 months before the publication date.

1. Preparing Your Paper

Structure: Your paper should be compiled in the following order: title; abstract; keywords; main text introduction, literature review, materials and methods, results and discussion; acknowledgments; references; appendices (as appropriate).

Title: Title must convey the meaning of the research. Use Palatino font size 14 pt, single space, length between 10-15 words, written using sentence-case.

Abstract: Abstract written using Palatino font size 8 pt. Use spaces (single), before 3 pt, after 10 pt. Abstract consists of 150-200 words. In the abstract there can be no formulas or citations. Should contain an unstructured abstract of 100-200 words. Abstrain must contain: background or problem, proposed method to solve the problem, results.

Keywords: Provide between 3 and 6 keywords for good indexing. Read making your article more discoverable, including information on choosing a title and search engine optimization.

Main text introduction: Introduction is written using Palatino font size 9 pt and first line paragraph is 0.19 inch. In the introduction, the author describes the background and problems of research, similar previous studies to determine state-of-the art, gap analysis, methods used, objectives, and research contributions.

Literature review: The author conducts a study of research relevant to the research conducted. In literature review, the author can create state-of-the-art so that research contributions can be clearly illustrated. Literature review can be put in the introduction.

Material and methods: The materials and methods section describe in detail all the materials that have been used to conduct a study as well as the procedures that are undertaken. As research writing should be orderly and organized therefore the materials in each of its sub-section should be presented in a logical manner. In each section of the materials and methods start with the most important procedure and go on to the least important. Also provide headings and subheading to make each sub part of the materials and methods section clear and understandable.

Conclussions: The conclusion is intended to help the reader understand why your research should matter to them after they have finished reading the paper. A conclusion is not merely a summary of the main topics covered or a re-statement of your research problem, but a synthesis of key points and, if applicable, where you recommend new areas for future research.

Results dan discussion: It is in this part of the work that you must present, comment, and interpret the data that you have collected in the research. While in the first two chapters you wrote a description of everything you found. In the analysis of results, you must change the focus and make a dissertation. The idea here is to interpret the relationships between these findings that you made in the other chapters.

References and citation: Authors must present the relevant articles to be included in references. The references must be from main sources: international journal, accredited national journal, proceedings, and books. We encourage authors use reference-management software such as Mendeley, Zotero, EndNote, Jabref, etc.  This journal use IEEE style for references and citation.

Acknowledgment: In the majority of research papers acknowledgement relates to the part of research project where author shows gratitude to the people who contributed to the research project. An acknowledgement in research paper is actually a section that lists everyone who supported the project.

In academic writing it is usual practice to acknowledge the contributions of donors, departments and individuals who have been of help during the research. The contribution may be financial, but also in a form of feedback on the manuscript during its drafting and revision.

Appendices: An appendix contains supplementary material that is not an essential part of the text itself but which may be helpful in providing a more comprehensive understanding of the research problem or it is information that is too cumbersome to be included in the body of the paper. A separate appendix should be used for each distinct topic or set of data and always have a title descriptive of its contents.

Word Limits: Please include a word count for your paper. There are no word limits for papers in this journal. Common article contains 5000-10000 words.

Style Guidelines: Please refer to these quick style guidelines when preparing your paper, rather than any published articles or a sample copy.

2. Formatting and Templates

Papers may be submitted in Word, Libre Office, or Open Office. Figures should be saved separately from the text. To assist you in preparing your paper, we provide formatting template(s).

3. References and Citations

This journal uses IEEE style for references and citations. We encourage authors to use a reference-management software, such as Mendeley, Zotero, EndNote, Jabref, etc.

Several things that must be considered for choosing articles as references:
1. The style used for citations and references is IEEE style.
2. The minimum number of articles used is 30 articles, and 80% of them are published in journals.
3. This journal prefers the articles from international journals, accredited national journals, and proceedings as the reference lists.
4. The articles used as references must be up to date, i.e. published no later than ten years ago. For example, the articles used for the 2022 edition are articles published between 2012-2021.
5. All articles must have a digital object identifier (DOI).

In-text Citing: It is not necessary to mention an author's name, pages used, or date of publication in the in-text citation. Instead, refer to the source with a number in a square bracket, e.g. [1], that will then correspond to the full citation in your reference list.

Place bracketed citations within the line of text, before any punctuation, with a space before the first bracket. Number your sources as you cite them in the paper. Once you have referred to a source and given it a number, continue to use that number as you cite that source throughout the paper.

When citing multiple sources at once, the preferred method is to list each number separately, in its own brackets, using a comma or dash between numbers, as such: [1], [3], [5] or [1] - [5].

Examples of in-text citations:

"...end of the line for my research [13]."

"This theory was first put forward in 1987 [1]."

"Scholtz [2] has argued that..."

"Several recent studies [3], [4], [15], [16] have suggested that...."

"For example, see [7]."

The Reference List appears at the end of your paper and provides the full citations for all the references you have used. List all references numerically in the order they've been cited within the paper, and include the bracketed number at the beginning of each reference.

- Title your list as References either centered or aligned left at the top of the page.
- Create a hanging indent for each reference with the bracketed numbers flush with the left side of the page. The hanging indent highlights the numerical sequence of your references.
- The author's name is listed as first initial, last name. Example: Adel Al Muhairy would be cited as A. Al Muhairy (NOT Al Muhairy, Adel).
- The title of an article is listed in quotation marks.
- The title of a journal or book is listed in italics.

4. Checklist: What to Include

Author details: All authors of a manuscript should include their full name and affiliation on the cover page of the manuscript. One author will need to be identified as the corresponding author, with their email address normally displayed in the article PDF and the online article. Authors’ affiliations are the affiliations where the research was conducted. If any of the named co-authors moves affiliation during the peer-review process, the new affiliation can be given as a footnote. Please note that no changes to affiliation can be made after your paper is accepted.

Where applicable, this should include the hyperlink, DOI or other persistent identifier associated with the data set(s). Templates are also available to support authors.

Data deposition: If you choose to share or make the data underlying the study open, please deposit your data in a recognized data repository prior to or at the time of submission. You will be asked to provide the DOI, pre-reserved DOI, or other persistent identifier for the data set.

Figures: Figures should be high quality (1200 dpi for line art, 600 dpi for grayscale and 300 dpi for colour, at the correct size). Figures should be supplied in one of our preferred file formats: EPS, PS, JPEG, TIFF, or Microsoft Word (DOC or DOCX) files are acceptable for figures that have been drawn in Word.

NOTE: All figures must be submitted separately as Suplementary Files.

Tables: Tables should present new information rather than duplicating what is in the text. Readers should be able to interpret the table without reference to the text. Please supply editable files, do not import table as picture. Tables can be supplied as Word documents.

Reference files: Reference files generated from reference-management software must be uploaded as Supplementary Files. We accept *.bib, *.ris, *.enw, *.nbib.

Equations: If you are submitting your manuscript as a Word document, please ensure that equations are editable. More information about mathematical symbols and equations.

Units: Please use SI units (non-italicized).

Using Third-Party Material: You must obtain the necessary permission to reuse third-party material in your article. The use of short extracts of text and some other types of material is usually permitted, on a limited basis, for the purposes of criticism and review without securing formal permission. If you wish to include any material in your paper for which you do not hold copyright, and which is not covered by this informal agreement, you will need to obtain written permission from the copyright owner prior to submission. Submission Preparation Checklist

As part of the submission process, authors are required to check off their submission's compliance with all of the following items, and submissions may be returned to authors that do not adhere to these guidelines.

  1. The submission has not been previously published, nor is it before another journal for consideration (or an explanation has been provided in Comments to the Editor).
  2. The submission file is in OpenOffice, Microsoft Word, or Libre Office document file format.
  3. Where available, URLs for the references have been provided.
  4. The text adheres to the stylistic and bibliographic requirements outlined in the Author Guidelines, which is found in About the Journal.
  5. Bibliography and citations are conducted by using application reference such as Mendeley, Zotero, etc.
  6. If submitting to a peer-reviewed section of the journal, the instructions in Ensuring a Blind Review have been followed.

5. Co-Authorship

If more than one author jointly prepared the article, any authors submitting the manuscript warrants that he/she has been authorized by all co-authors to be agreed on this copyright and license notice (agreement) on their behalf and agrees to inform his/her co-authors of the terms of this policy. Journal of System Engineering and Management will not be held liable for anything that may arise due to the author(s) internal dispute. Journal of System Engineering and Management will only communicate with the corresponding author.

6. Royalties

Being an open accessed journal and disseminating articles for free under the Creative Commons license term mentioned, author(s) aware that Journal of System Engineering and Management entitles the author(s) to no royalties or other fees.

7. Miscellaneous

Journal of System Engineering and Management will publish the article (or have it published) in the journal if the article’s editorial process is completed. Journal of System Engineering and Management editors may modify the article to a style of punctuation, spelling, capitalization, referencing, and usage that deems appropriate. The author acknowledges that the article may be published to be publicly accessible, and such access will be free of charge for the readers, as mentioned in point 3.
