Cultivation of caisim (Brassica rapa subsp. Chinensis) is one of the efforts to improve food security in Indonesia. Plant cultivation methods often have high costs and are less environmentally friendly. Carbon Dots are carbon-based nanomaterials that are environmentally friendly and low cost and have many potential applications including in agriculture. This study aims to synthesize carbon dots from melinjo peel waste using microwave irradiation technique and apply it to the growth of caisim plants. Carbon dots were synthesized using microwave. Characterization process on carbon dots using UV flashlight, UV-VIS spectrophotometer and photoluminescence. The results of observations using a UV flashlight show that the resulting carbon dots have a blue-green color. The results of the UV-VIS spectrophotometer characterization test showed an absorbance peak at 266 nm and photolumunence testing showed the results of its excitation peak at 453 nm. The application of carbon dots on plant growth with variations in solution concentrations of 0.06 mL/gram and 0.09 mL/gram with plant sizes of 5.1 cm to 5.4 cm in ten days, this shows that there is a significant increase compared to using pure distilled water solution. The results of this study indicate that carbon dots obtained from melinjo peel waste have the potential as an environmentally friendly material to support plant growth, while contributing to reducing waste.
